Frequently Asked Questions

About this Recruitment

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), functioning under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, has released a wide-ranging recruitment notification for 2026, inviting online applications for 51 contract posts under the Strengthening of Environmental Regulators (SER)-Phase-III Project on River Ganga. Funded by the National Mission for Clean Ganga under the Namami Gange Programme, this recruitment drive spans nine distinct posts — from senior scientific roles to entry-level field and clerical positions — making it a rare opportunity for candidates across multiple qualification levels to join India's premier pollution-control body. The vacancy spread under CPCB Recruitment 2026 includes Scientist-D (1 post), Scientist-C (8 posts), Scientist-B (12 posts), Assistant Manager Finance (3 posts), Administrative Assistant (1 post), Scientific Assistant (13 posts), Taxonomist (1 post), Data Entry Operator (4 posts), and Field Assistant (8 posts). Each post carries its own distinct eligibility criteria, ranging from a 10+2 in Science for Field Assistant roles to advanced Master's degrees or Bachelor's in Engineering/Technology backed by GATE/NET-JRF qualifications or published research work for the scientific cadre. This tiered structure allows both fresh graduates and highly experienced environmental professionals to find a suitable entry point within the organisation. Compensation under this recruitment is notably attractive for a contractual engagement, with consolidated monthly pay ranging from ₹38,741/- for Field Assistants to as much as ₹1,71,597/- for the Scientist-D post. Scientist-C and Scientist-B posts carry ₹1,48,997/- and ₹1,25,380/- respectively, while Assistant Manager (Finance) draws ₹1,19,272/-, and Scientific Assistant and Administrative Assistant posts are pegged at ₹77,654/- each. These figures reflect CPCB's effort to attract experienced professionals for a high-priority environmental monitoring project, even though the roles remain co-terminus with the SER-Phase-III project timeline and carry no right to future regularization. Eligible candidates can apply completely free of cost, as CPCB has waived the application fee for all categories under this recruitment. The online application window runs from 24 August 2026 (10:00 AM) to 7 September 2026 (23:59 Hrs), and the process is conducted entirely through the CPCB website in a two-step format — an initial registration step followed by a detailed application submission step where candidates upload their qualification, experience, and supporting documents. Since applications, once submitted, cannot be edited or resubmitted, candidates are strongly advised to prepare all their information and scanned documents in advance. Selection for CPCB Recruitment 2026 follows a document-verification-and-interview model rather than a conventional written examination for most posts. The Screening Committee retains the discretion to introduce additional shortlisting criteria — including a written test — if the volume of applications for a particular post is high. Data Entry Operator applicants, however, must additionally clear a practical skill test in MS Office along with prescribed English and Hindi typing speeds. All interviews will be conducted in Delhi, and candidates should note that no travel allowance or accommodation will be provided for attending. One important aspect of this recruitment worth noting is that there is no age relaxation available for any category, including in-service candidates, Ex-servicemen, or reserved categories — a departure from many standard government recruitment norms. Age limits are strictly post-specific, ranging from 27 years for Field Assistant up to 50 years for Scientist-D, and are calculated as on the closing date of 7 September 2026. Additionally, there is no reservation applicable across these 51 posts, and the number of vacancies may be revised by CPCB based on project requirements. Given the scale and variety of roles on offer — spanning scientific, financial, administrative, and field-based functions — this CPCB recruitment drive presents a genuine opportunity for candidates from diverse educational backgrounds to contribute to one of India's most significant river-rejuvenation initiatives. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the detailed post-wise eligibility carefully, gather all necessary documents, and complete their online registration well ahead of the 7 September 2026 deadline to avoid any technical difficulties closer to the closing date.
