Job Description
Introduction The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission has rolled out a major faculty recruitment exercise for the state's Medical Education Department, seeking to fill 1156 teaching posts across government medical colleges. This drive, covering both Professor and Assistant Professor cadres, is aimed at strengthening academic medical infrastructure across dozens of specialities, ranging from core disciplines like Anatomy, Physiology and General Medicine to advanced super-specialities such as Cardiac Surgery, Neurology and Medical Oncology. Vacancy Overview Out of the 1156 total posts, 44 are earmarked for Professor and 1112 for Assistant Professor. These are further divided between General Recruitment and Special Recruitment streams, the latter reserved for candidates from SC, ST and OBC categories in specific specialities where representation gaps exist. The vacancy distribution spans over 60 distinct medical and allied specialities, making this one of the broadest single recruitment notifications issued for medical academic posts in the state this year. As is standard practice, the Commission has clarified that the number of vacancies may be revised upward or downward depending on institutional requirements before final selection. Eligibility Candidates aspiring for Professor posts need a postgraduate medical degree specific to their chosen speciality along with substantial teaching experience as an Associate Professor, supported by research publication credentials and completion of a biomedical research training course. Assistant Professor aspirants require the equivalent postgraduate qualification with at least a year of Senior Residency experience in the subject, though several alternate experience pathways exist for niche specialities. All qualifications must be held as of the last date for submission of the online application. Age Limit The prescribed age band for Professor posts is 35 to 55 years, while Assistant Professor applicants must fall between 26 and 40 years of age, both reckoned as on 1 July 2026. Reserved-category candidates, persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen and eligible research fellows are entitled to relaxation as per the applicable government rules. Salary Selected Professors will be placed on Pay Matrix Level-14, and Assistant Professors on Pay Matrix Level-11 — both classified as Group-A, Gazetted positions carrying standard central and state allowances applicable to medical education faculty roles. Selection Process The recruitment follows the Commission's screening-and-interview model. An objective-type Screening Examination, featuring negative marking for wrong answers, filters candidates for the subsequent Interview stage. The final merit ranking blends 75% weightage from the Screening Examination score and 25% from the Interview, subject to candidates meeting the minimum qualifying percentage set for their category. Application Process Interested candidates must first secure a One Time Registration (OTR) Number well in advance of applying. The application itself proceeds through the UPPSC portal in defined stages — detail submission, fee payment via the SBI MOPS gateway, and final form generation — after which a signed hard copy along with supporting documents must reach the Commission's office by post within the stipulated deadline. Important Dates The online application window opened on 18 August 2026 and closes for fee payment and submission on 1 September 2026. Candidates can correct submitted details until 8 September 2026, and hard copies of the application with documents must be received by the Commission no later than 15 September 2026 (5:00 PM). Conclusion This UPPSC recruitment drive offers a substantial number of stable, well-paid academic medical positions across Uttar Pradesh's government medical colleges. Given the wide range of specialities covered and the structured, transparent selection process, eligible postgraduate medical professionals are encouraged to review the detailed eligibility criteria for their speciality and complete their OTR registration and application well before the deadline to avoid last-minute issues.
