The recruitment spans three categories — Graduate Apprentice, Technician Apprentice, and Trade Apprentice — conducted under the Board of Apprenticeship Training, Southern Region (BOAT-SR), and offers a total of 530 one-year apprenticeship training positions at BHEL's Tiruchirappalli unit in Tamil Nadu. Vacancy Overview The 530 posts are distributed across three categories. Graduate Apprentice offers 90 posts covering Mechanical Engineering (50), Civil Engineering (8), Computer Science Engineering (3), Electronics & Communication Engineering (3), Electrical & Electronics Engineering (3), Accountant (13), and Assistant-HR (10). Technician Apprentice offers 60 posts across Mechanical Engineering (40), Computer Engineering (6), Civil Engineering (6), Electronics & Communication Engineering (3), and Electrical & Electronics Engineering (5). Trade Apprentice, the largest category with 380 posts, covers Fitter (125), Welder (115), Electrician (30), Turner (20), Machinist (20), Instrument Mechanic (7), Motor Mechanic (12), Mechanic R&AC (6), and COPA (45). Eligibility Eligibility requirements differ by category. Graduate Apprentice candidates need a full-time degree in the relevant discipline from a Government recognized institution, with 60% marks required for UR/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates and 50% for SC/ST candidates; postgraduate degree holders are excluded. Technician Apprentice candidates require a full-time Diploma in Engineering completed within the last five years, under the same marks criteria. Trade Apprentice candidates need a High School pass along with an ITI qualification from an NCVT/SCVT recognized institute, with NCVT mandatory for the Welder trade specifically. Across all categories, only 2022-2026 pass-outs are eligible, and distance, part-time, correspondence, or sandwich course qualifications are not accepted. Age Limit The age limit is uniform across all three categories: a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 27 years as on 1 August 2026 for General category candidates. Age relaxation is available as follows: 5 years for SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC (NCL) candidates, and 10 years for Physically Challenged candidates with at least 40% disability. Salary Selected apprentices will receive a consolidated monthly stipend: ₹12,300 for Graduate Apprentices, ₹10,900 for Technician Apprentices, and between ₹10,560 and ₹11,040 for Trade Apprentices depending on the trade. Subsidized food and hostel facilities are also provided across all three categories during the training period. Selection Process Selection is purely merit-based, with no written examination involved. A merit list is prepared using marks secured in the candidate's qualifying Degree, Diploma, or ITI examination, as applicable. In case of a tie, preference is given to the older candidate. Selected candidates must also satisfy minimum physical fitness standards under the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, before being engaged for training.
